Seoul is the capital city of South Korea. It is a small, concentrated and modernized city where many major activities and businesses exist. During my summer vacation, I learned about Seoul in my Literary World class by traveling around Seoul, reading various pieces of literature, and visiting the Seoul Museum of History. In this project, I make careful, deep observations from my strolling around Seoul, and from reading great literary works written by different authors.
Even though I was born and lived in Seoul for more than 15 years, I was not familiar with its history and culture. I have been studying aboard from Korea for long years. I went to a Canadian high school, and now I study in Chicago as an art university student. Since I have been living in different cities of other countries, I can compare my experiences from life aboard to my lives in Seoul. Through the Seoul Project, I have learned so much about Seoul– especially its social issues, including its dark sides.
These following four pieces represent my sense of Seoul:
- My Visit to the Seoul Museum of History: Light of the Response of the Seoul
- My Old Home Town: Strolling through Sangdo-dong, Seoul
- My Experience Vs. Kubo’s Experience: A Day in the Life of Kubo the Novelist by Pak T’aewŏn
- Seoul Film: The Terror Live
